About the award

Jay Crissey, a stalwart ambassador of maritime excellence, demonstrated unwavering commitment to safety and security throughout his distinguished career. As a dedicated United States Coast Guard Veteran, he served with honor in Vietnam and the Columbia River. Post-service, Jay continued his noble mission by joining the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association and Total Marine Safety in Chicago. His expertise and passion for maritime safety led him to collaborate with numerous tour boat companies, and he was a respected member of Chicago Lodge 3. Jay actively participated in Chicago Maritime Industry Day from 19xx until his passing in 2021, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.

This award seeks to recognize mariners who embody the spirit of the Jay Crissey Mariner Award. These individuals may possess untold narratives of exceptional circumstances that demanded their courageous actions in times of emergency.

Within your organization there are mariners who consistently exceed expectations in prioritizing safety. Some of your mariners may have successfully executed multiple man overboard rescues, extinguished fires, or undertaken dewatering efforts. Perhaps there is an individual in your organization that has dedicated their career towards safety through training others or volunteer efforts to spread knowledge amongst the maritime community. The Jay Crissey Award aims to acknowledge and celebrate these remarkable achievements.

As mariners, it is our responsibility to acknowledge the contributions of our fellow mariners. However, it is easy to overlook this task amidst the demands of a summer season. I kindly request that you take a moment to reflect and identify individuals within your team who deserve recognition. Your participation and nominations are crucial for the success of this award program. 

The Jay Crissey Mariner Award will be presented at the annual Chicago Regional Industry Day Meeting hosted by ISMA Lodge 3.
